This project was designed to empower young single mothers and women groups by equipping them with practical skills, emotional support, and opportunities for economic independence. The main focus of the initiative was reusable sanitary pad sewing training, which provided participants with a valuable vocational skill that could improve both their personal wellbeing and income-generating potential.
Through hands-on training sessions, participants learned how to sew high-quality reusable sanitary pads using affordable and locally available materials. The training covered important areas such as measuring, cutting, stitching, hygiene standards, product finishing, and basic quality control. In addition to improving access to affordable menstrual products, the project also created opportunities for women to start small businesses or contribute financially to their households.
Beyond technical training, the project offered mentorship and guidance to help participants build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills. Mentors worked closely with the women to encourage personal growth, goal setting, and problem-solving, while also providing emotional and social support. This mentorship component helped many participants feel more motivated, valued, and connected to their communities.
The project also emphasized community-centered support by creating safe and inclusive spaces where women could share experiences, learn from one another, and build supportive networks. Group discussions, teamwork activities, and peer support strengthened social connections and encouraged collaboration among participants. By involving local communities and women’s groups, the initiative promoted sustainability, collective empowerment, and long-term impact.
Overall, the project aimed not only to provide sewing skills, but also to improve dignity, self-reliance, menstrual health awareness, and economic opportunities for vulnerable young mothers and women in the community.
